Steve A Myers

Dr. Myers is a graduate from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture as well as a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation, he worked for five years in Chattanooga at a small animal hospital and emergency clinic. In 1998, he opened Animal Medical Center. Dr. Myers grew up on a dairy farm in Coffee County, but now resides in Murfreesboro with his wife, Karen and their Schnauzer, “Lady”.

Cristy Ellis

Dr. Cristy Ellis is a native of Mississippi. She received her veterinary degree from Mississippi State University in 1994. Dr. Ellis was a relief vet in Northeast Mississippi for three years before opening her own practice. She was a small animal veterinarian and practice owner for ten years before she and her husband moved to Murfreesboro. They have three sons, a daughter, two daughters-in-law and 4 grandchildren.
Dr. Ellis enjoys playing golf, traveling and spending time with her family.

Julie Bracey

Pets, including horses, dogs, cats and rodents have always been part of the Julie Bracey’s life, so veterinary medicine seemed the obvious choice for a career. She graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2004 with a B.S. in Biology. In 2009, she received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tennessee. After working in an integrative medicine practice in Ohio for a year, she returned to Middle Tennessee to be closer to her family. She worked for 2 years at Banfield, the pet Hospital before joining the staff of Animal Medical Center. She Currently lives in Murfreesboro with her Dalmatian named Maximo, and a Chihuahua/dachshund mix named Romeo.

Anna Tipton

Dr. Tipton is from Dickson, TN and was raised on a small farm with many different types of animals including: dogs, cats, guinea pigs, birds, and livestock. She attended Middle Tennessee State University and received her Bachelors’ of Science in Biology and in Animal Science. She graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She joined our staff in 2013 and currently works as an emergency veterinarian. She lives in Murfreesboro, TN with her cats, Hephaestus and Apollo; her dog, Zora; and her many fish.

Rebekah Heithcock

Dr. Rebekah Heithcock received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Middle Tennessee State University and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Heithcock’s special interests include: ophthalmology, internal medicine and surgery. Dr. Heithcock grew up on a farm in McMinnville, Tn. She met her husband, Ben, while attending MTSU. They have two daughters, Charlotte and Lucy, 2 dogs (Lexie, Ollie), 3 Quarter horses (Corrare, Leo, Nugget) and a goldfish named Hamburger. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading and traveling.

Justin Johnson

Dr. Johnson was raised in Hopkinsville, KY. He attended Auburn University College of Veterinary medicine and graduated in 2018. He practiced small animal general medicine in Louisville, KY before relocating to Nashville, where he joined our team full-time. Dr. Johnson’s clinical interests include general practice, ER medicine, and surgery. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time on the lake, and watching Kentucky basketball. He owns 2 mixed breed dogs named Levi and Lincoln.

Lauren Cain

Dr. Lauren Cain received her Bachelor of Animal Science from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2015 and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University. Dr. Cain enjoys establishing a bond with her animal clients and their owners–ensuring they know they’re in the care of kind and capable hands. She strives to make a personal connection with each owner and patient.  She enjoys spending her spare time with her two poodles (Lucy and Fiona) and watching movies. 

Logan Shirley

Dr. Shirley was raised just down the road in Hermitage before moving to East Tennessee for college. She graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Sewanee in 2015 then attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville for her doctorate. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, including two nephews, and her dog Louie.

Heather Bassham

Born in Pekin, Illinois, Heather and her family relocated to Murfreesboro while she was still very young. A graduate of Blackman High School, she attended MTSU to major in Business. During that time, she was offered the opportunity to train at grooming with a well-respected groomer in Nashville. She apprenticed for a year learning everything she could. She enjoyed the work and animals so much in 2004 she changed her career to being a full time groomer.

Heather and her family, which include her children Destin, Kaula, Dealin and Easton along with their cat Willow, still reside in Murfreesboro.

Kim Smythia

Kim was born and raised in Murfreesboro and graduated from Riverdale High School. She attended Martin Methodist College in Pulaski before returning to Murfreesboro to begin raising her family. After spending several years in the marketing / sales area she began working for a local veterinary clinic as an assistant. Kim came to Animal Medical Center in 2006 and has been an emergency veterinary assistant and employee Manager. She has since graduated from the Concord School of Grooming and has joined the team in the AMC Pet Salon.

She shares her home with her husband and one of her three sons, along with her three dogs, Maxx, Hoss, and Lewis.

Christy Absher
Employee Manager

Christy grew up on a cattle farm in Tazewell, Virginia. She moved to middle Tennessee in 2001 to attend MTSU. While attending MTSU, she joined the staff of Animal Medical Center as an assistant/receptionist. After receiving her BS in Animal Science, she moved on to a position as an assistant at Cascade Veterinary Hospital where she honed her large animal skills as well as maintaining her small animal skills. Christy rejoined Animal Medical Center in 2013 as the employee manager.

Christy lives in Shelbyville, Tennessee with her four dogs (Wrangler, Roper, Baby and Fallon) and her cat (Balou). She enjoys spending time out on the farm with her horses and cattle.
