What cat breeds live the longest?

Although most cats live for 10-14 years or so on average, some breeds of cats do live longer than others. Today, our Murfreesboro vets list some breeds of cats that tend to live longer lives so you can have your feline companion for many years to come.

What cat breeds live the longest?

It is quite difficult to determine how long a cat will live as there are many factors to consider. Nature vs nurture is a big determining factor that can affect certain breeds differently. Underlying conditions and unexpected illness can of course alter a cat's life span, which is why getting your older cat regular geriatric care is so important.

Assuming a cat lives a long and healthy life, our Murfreesboro vets share 5 of the best cat breeds that have a longer lifespan.

How long do Siamese cats live?

The Siamese cat originated in Thailand, as its name suggests. Siamese cats have grown in popularity due to their sociability, playfulness, and entertainment value. Because of their intelligence, Siamese cats can be trained. They can be trained to walk on a leash and perform a variety of tricks.

Siamese cats tend to live up to 15 years on average, but it is not unheard of for them to live to be 20 years old.

How long do Munchkin cats live?

Munchkin cats are a relatively new breed distinguished by their dwarfism. Despite having noticeably short legs, the energetic, fun-loving breed is well-known for its speed. These cats can be born with one of three leg lengths: standard length (the tallest), super short (second tallest), or rug huggers (the shortest).

This breed will usually live up to 15 years old.

How long do Balinese cats live?

Some people believe the Balinese cat is descended from the Siamese cat. The Balinese are physically similar to Siamese cats, but their fur is different. When compared to Siamese cats, Balinese cats have a longer coat length. Balinese cats make excellent pets because they are outgoing, affectionate, active, intelligent, agile, and 'chatty.'

A healthy Balinese cat can live between 18 and 22 years old.

How long do Ragdoll cats live?

The Ragdoll cat is another relatively new cat breed, dating back to the early 1960s. A Ragdoll cat, like a Persian cat, has long, silky fur. The Ragdoll cat, as the name implies, is laid-back and easy-going, and, like a rag doll, can become limp when picked up. Ragdoll cats are extremely friendly to strangers. They are also gentle and enjoy lounging around the house.

Despite their soft look, these cats are quite the tough and healthy breed that can live up to 15-25 years.

How long do Burmese cats live?

Burmese cats are medium in size and have beautiful short coats. They are very active cats who are playful and friendly with both their owners and strangers. These adorable companions adore children and are an excellent choice for a family pet.

There is a record of a Burmese cat who lived to be 35 years old. Most Burmese cats don't live to be this long of course, but they do have an impressive lifespan of 18 to 25 years.
